Support Systems, Programming, & Story Time

Story-time. This week my new loadable Husafell "stone" arrived from Titan Fitness. First, I want to thank Titan Fitness for the quick turnaround on orders. Every time I order from them they always impress me with how quickly I receive my order. Keep in mind this is in no way an official endorsement. I mean, Titan Fitness is one of my go-to brands but we aren't THAT close (of course I wouldn't turn down a sponsorship). But, I digress. Now, Titan Fitness is great but FedEx... oh FedEx, you lot continue to prove underwhelming. Actually, I take that back. When you used to deliver to the wrong address EVERY. SINGLE. TIME, you were underwhelming. Now, I suppose I am simply whelmed.

Without going into excruciating detail, let's just say that their hands-on treatment of the apparatus was less than stellar. Of course, it is a piece of 110lb steel but it's the principle. Anyway, FedEx arrived with the Husafell and I watched in amusement as the delivery driver attempted to push, prod, and pull the steel monstrosity toward the loading door. As he stepped out onto my yard for a break I decided that enough was enough and I needed to help. I opened my front door and walked down the stone steps in my front yard, waving and inquiring, "Heavy?" He stopped in the middle of stretching his back and shook his head. So, what did I do? I walked around him, maneuvered the Husafell into a position I could wrap my arms around it, and picked it up.

I don't like bravado for bravado's sake, but I mean, c'mon, I had to do it. The sharp exhale of air from the poor guy followed by his stammering, "Um, you got it?" was completely worth it. Of course, me being me, I had to ice the cake. By the time he had said anything I was already half-way to my door. I wish I could have taken a picture of his face as I stopped mid-stride, turned, and calmly said, "Oh, yeah, thanks!" Ah, sometimes it's the little things.

Needless to say, this week has been great, especially being back in the gym. And that's the true testament to the program. My coach likes to remind me that I have to give my body a chance to rest to make consistent gains. I nod and I agree, but some weeks it takes real self-control to not squeeze in a lifting session when I'm supposed to be resting. But kids, listen to your coach, don't fall off the wagon that is your programming. Take it from me, you'll make bigger gains when you treat your body to it's much needed rest. If you need to lean on someone for support, make sure you keep that person(s) close.

Which leads me to my next point. My support system. None of it. Absolutely nothing I have accomplished in the past five years would be possible without my wifey mcwiferpants. Lil' meow meow, as many lovingly call her (no one calls her that) is my foundation. I don't know if I just got insanely lucky when Courtney said yes to my proposal or I'm secretly not half-bad, but regardless, I couldn't do this without her.

I hope everyone enjoys their Labor Day weekend. Remember to hold onto your support systems, no matter who they may be. Please tip the doorman on your way out and be sure to listen to your coach. They know best.
